Non-Degree Seeking Student Status

The Non-Degree Seeking student status has been established for those individuals who, while not intending to earn a degree, would like to take University courses.

Non-Degree Seeking registration is based on space availability. Students planning to register Non-Degree Seeking for the first time must obtain permission from the MPA director.

Students not yet admitted to the MPA Program may take up to 12 credit hours of graduate PAD coursework Non-Degree Seeking. Once admitted, with approval of the MPA director, 12 credit hours of non-degree seeking coursework will be accepted towards the degree.

Important Information for Non-Degree-Seeking Students:

In accordance with USF Graduate School Policy, students may take a maximum of 12 credit hours Non-Degree Seeking. Those who are nearing completion of the 12 credit hour limit must apply to the MPA Program prior to registering for excess hours. Students who have completed more than 12 credit hours without being admitted into the Program must, upon acceptance to the Program, complete a Graduate School Petition (http://www.grad.usf.edu/forms/) to which an explanation addressing the reason(s) excess credit hours were taken must be attached. All such petitions are reviewed by the Graduate School Dean, and a positive outcome is not guaranteed.

Non-Degree Seeking Application Procedures:

Submit $30.00 non-refundable application fee and a Non-Degree Seeking Enrollment Application (http://www.registrar.usf.edu), to the Office of the Registrar, Tampa Campus, 4202 East Fowler Avenue, SVC1034, Tampa, FL 33620-6950, or to the Office of the Registrar at either the Lakeland or Sarasota regional campuses.

Immunization Proof Requirement:

As a prerequisite to matriculation the Florida Division of Colleges and Universities requires all students born after 1956 to present documented proof of immunity to Measles (Rubeola), and German Measles (Rubella).

Medical History Requirement:

Signed Medical History/Immunization forms are required for all students regardless of age.

Proof of Residency Requirement:

In order to be classified as In-State for fee payment, Non-Degree Seeking students who have never been enrolled at USF, or whose previous enrollment was more than 12 months prior to the semester for which the student is presently enrolling, must submit proof of Florida residency.

Registration and Payment:

Non-degree seeking students who have been cleared to register are eligible to do so using OASIS, The University’s Online Access Student Information System. A link for OASIS is located at the bottom of the USF Home Page (http://www.usf.edu/default/). For fee and payment information visit the web at http://www.usf.edu.

Non-degree seeking students may also register on-site at either Lakeland or Sarasota Regional Campuses. For Regional Campus registration dates and locations, please refer to the “Regional Campus Registration” section on the web.

For detailed information about registering using OASIS, students may visit the web site at http://www.usf.edu, or refer to the hard copy of the USF UNIVERSITY OF SOUTH FLORIDA SCHEDULE OF CLASSES available approximately one month prior to the beginning of each semester. Hard copies are available at The Office of the Registrar, as well as at various locations around campus.

Graduate Program Transfer Procedures:

USF degree seeking students in other masters programs, who wish to transfer to the MPA Program, may do so by completing a Graduate Change of Program Application, available on the Graduate School’s web site at http://www.grad.usf.edu/gradcatalog.html. Students changing graduate programs are subject to the admission requirements above.
