Electives

6 credit hours of elective courses. Two elective courses from the Department of Public Administration which are relevant to the study of nonprofit management or another graduate program.

Course location/delivery: This graduate certificate curriculum is offered at the Tampa campus.

Brief description: Nonprofit administrators as well as those who aspire to work for nonprofit organizations will benefit from this graduate certificate curriculum, which covers leadership, fund raising and strategic planning issues. The 18-hour course of study can be completed in one year.

Credit toward graduate degree: Students in the Nonprofit Management graduate certificate program may apply up to 12 hours toward the MPA degree. Certificate program courses are the same courses taken by MPA students.

Transfer credit: Non-degree seeking students and transfer students may apply one course to a graduate certificate with department approval.

Standardized tests: No standardized tests are required for admission to the certificate program. However, should a student subsequently decide to apply to the master's program in Public Administration, the GRE is required.

Admission requirements: Applicants must hold a bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited university and should have a "B" (3.0) average for the course of undergraduate study.

Application process: Please visit http://www.outreach.usf.edu/gradcerts/admissions.asp to access the application. In addition, to the application forms please submit:

  1. Submit official transcripts of previous academic degrees earned.
  2. Provide a 250-word statement describing work experience in the public or nonprofit sectors, along with a brief statement indicating how career objectives can be enhanced by completing the Nonprofit Management graduate certificate program.
  3. Provide a resume.
  4. Three letters of recommendation.
  5. Contact the department for additional requirements.

Registration process: First, consult with the certificate program advisor and obtain an electronic course permit if necessary. Then go to http://usfonline.admin.usf.edu/, the link to OASIS, USF's on-line registration system. Follow directions given on-line.

Financial aid: Non-degree seeking students are not eligible for financial aid. Please contact private lenders for information on the types of student loans available.
