Graduate Assistantships

The Department of Government & International Affairs offers up to four Masters-level graduate assistantships each academic year. The assistantships include a salary of no less than $10,545 per academic year (approximately $506 biweekly) for a 0.50 FTE appointment (20 hours per week). Graduate assistants are eligible for a tuition waiver on eligible coursework (tuition is waived and GA’s are responsible for student fees), as well as the USF GA Health Insurance program.

Graduate assistants in the Department of Government & International Affairs are assigned to assist instructors with their undergraduate courses. General duties include proctoring exams, maintaining course materials on Canvas, preparing materials for distribution to students (paper/electronic), submitting exams to the USF Scanning Office for processing, entering exam/assignment grades in Canvas, and occasionally covering a class section when the instructor cannot be present. Please be aware that this list is not comprehensive, but provides a general sense of the common duties of a graduate assistant in GIA.

Assistantships are competitive and are only awarded to those who apply. If you are interested in an assistantship in the Department of Government & International Affairs, please complete the online application. For questions, please contact Jennifer Vincent at vincentj@usf.edu.
